As sports broadcast continues to shift to streaming services, Netflix, the world's No. 1 streaming service, is reportedly pursuing the rights to broadcast sporting events online.

The Sports Business Journal reports that Netflix is showing some interest in the National Basketball Association's (NBA) newly announced seasonal tournament television rights. The company is considering broadcasting sporting events in the same way it has used original content to gain subscribers in the past.

It's clear why Netflix is moving into sports coverage. It helps drive revenue.  For ad products, sporting events are a perfect fit because they bring together a live audience. We're also betting on sports because demand for Netflix original content is falling.  Netflix created a market for streaming, but can it do the same for sports?
