Sarah Wallace, a veteran investigative reporter who spent 11 years at New York’s WNBC, has left the station. Wallace is a 19-time Emmy winner and a Peabody Award recipient. But what makes her departure notable is not simply that a highly decorated journalist is leaving. WNBC is not replacing her. It eliminated the investigative reporter position altogether.

Wallace made clear on social media that she is “not retiring.” She said WNBC had made the difficult financial decision not to renew her contract and to eliminate her position amid changes in the media landscape. Wallace plans to continue investigating crime, corruption and other issues while searching for the “right platform” for her work.
